Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant At 50

What are your chances of getting pregnant at 50? Calculators Live has an interesting program to answer this question. According to their results, your chances of getting pregnant at 50 are only 5%. This is assuming that you’ve been trying to get pregnant for at least a year. Note that the calculator does not take into account fertility treatments or whether or not you’ve started menopause.

Even still, 5% is a figure that cannot be ignored. So, if you are one of the people that does NOT want to experience pregnancy at 50 years of age, you should use protection

during your intimate moments. Conversely, if you DO want to experience a pregnancy at 50 years old, there are a few things you need to think about.

First, be aware that your chances of getting pregnant after menopause are almost non-existent. This is because menopause is the body’s way of stopping reproduction. If nature allowed women to have babies as seniors, they might not live long enough to see the child grow up. As such, you have no chance of pregnancy after menopause. With that said, if you want to get pregnant at 50 naturally, you will have to try to conceive during perimenopause.

During perimenopause, you still have periods, but they are irregular. Doctors do not consider you menopausal until you have missed 12 periods in a row. As such, there are occasions where women this age believe they are pregnant. And in a small percentage of cases, their gut feeling is correct.

If you end up in this

situation, be aware that pregnancy at 50 years of age can be very dangerous. According to People, Nancy Grace had pregnancy complications at 48 years of age. At 50, the risks are worse because you are literally at the end of your reproductive life. In addition, there is a greater chance that your child will develop Down’s syndrome and/or other complications.

So in my opinion, you should not want to get pregnant at 50…naturally or otherwise. The situation is just too risky.

But if you are one of the people that does experience a pregnancy at 50 years old, make sure you get good prenatal care. Follow all of your gynecologist’s recommendations, especially when it comes to bed rest. Even in your earlier months, you might be advised to stay off your feet to ensure you do not stress out your body.

Also, try to think positive. While pregnancy at 50 years of age is definitely something I wouldn’t do, if it happens to you, remember that you’re not alone. There are plenty of women over 50 who have had healthy babies. Again, I wouldn’t force the issue with fertility treatments, but if you got pregnant naturally, try to enjoy the process. You can beat the odds with healthy behavior and a positive outlook.
